Suitable for the Olympic year, their first year in a new house close to Komazawa Olympic park has begun. The Elder daughter of the Sugiura family – Rinen was born on December 28th, and her younger brother was born on December 26th. “We did not try to… actually to be honest, we wish we could combine their birthdays and Christmas…” says Yuu with laugh.
“When Rinen was born, I returned to my home-town in Niigata prefecture to give her birth and my husband arrived with perfect timing. He came for us even though he had to work in the afternoon… so he went back right after Rinen was born.” Not only then, but he comes back home in the middle of work to go walking with Rinen. He believes/feels it is very important to spend time with his children. When Tafuta, the younger brother was born, he was able to coordinate his work, so he came to the hospital with Rinen.
“Rinen was moved and started crying when she saw her brother for the first time…. She did not get nervous but her tears naturally fell saying, “a baby came out from mommy,” I also happened to cry when I saw her.”
Happy things continue for them. Their 2nd child was born and their life at the “dream house” built on land which they found coincidentally has started. “One day, I felt something when I walked past this place and looked it up right after. In the night, my wife dreamed of living in this place”. Facing a street where buses pass, such an empty land. People could say “I cannot imagine living in this place” but Tomomi was able to see it… Now in this destiny house, the Ibul quilting Mat and round Ibul quilting cushion from D BY DADWAY play an active part when changing diapers for Tafuta and as a play space for Rinen. “I like this texture, atmosphere and softness for babies,” says Tomomi. Talking about texture, the names of their children are “Rinen (sounds similar to Linen in Japanese)” and “Tafuta(Taftah)”, were both inspired from materials.
“I thought linen is for women as it can be used for wedding dress. We also made a wish that my child to be open-hearted as its lines are breathable, also to have this same philosophy (it is also called Rinen in Japanese). Tafuta came from the sound of the word Tough. This material can also be used for luxury umbrellas so we hope he will be an umbrella for someone in a future.” How impressive that the names are well related to their work. They shared a heart -warming episode at the last about a joke their friends made, “So you will name the third one Silk? ”
